      Decide how large of a football shape you want. Make sure to use a large enough material for this football shape. Draw a basic football shape around the material using a pencil or marker in order to guide your lathing process.

      Turn on the lathe. Feed the material into the lathe. Use the lathe to cut the material around the outline you drew of the football shape. Turn the lathe off. Remove your football.
