How to Rechamber a Barrel

Learning how to rechamber a gun barrel is a good skill for you to acquire if you work with guns and ammunition. The basic process is relatively simple, but mastering it takes practice, and most experienced gun owners spend years perfecting their individual techniques. It is important to remember that not all gun barrels can be rechambered. Models that are conducive to rechambering are useful because they accommodate larger cartridges.   • Barrel wrench
  • O-ring
  • Collar
  • 4 bolts

Instructions

    • 1

      Set the gun in a vise and secure. Remove the gun barrel using a barrel wrench.

      Slide an O-ring over the chamber end of the gun barrel.

      Mount a collar with four bolts to the backside of the headstock.

      Place the barrel in the headstock. The muzzle should go through the headstock.

      Lightly close the lathe chuck on the O-ring.

      Indicate the muzzle end in using the collar on the headstock for guidance.

      Select a long indicator that can extend into the grooves and reach the throat of the finished chamber. Indicate the chamber end of the barrel in.

      Center the point where the bullet starts into the lands. Tighten the chuck and crush the O-ring to tighten. Chamber the barrel in the headstock.

      Thread the barrel using a threaded bore pilot.
