How to Powder When Reloading Shotgun Slugs

The shotgun slug is what you load into the shotgun to shoot it. When you reload the slug, you will use a special powder along with various other materials. The slug and powder help to increase the power of your shot, and the powder is what actually propels the power behind the shot. If you have never completed this process yourself before, you might be confused about what exactly you're supposed to do with the powder when reloading shotgun slugs.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the reloading guide for your specific shotgun model. The guide will tell you how much powder you need to use to fire slugs. Use only this amount. It can vary greatly from one shotgun to the next.

    • 2

Place the powder amount into the charge bar of the reloader once you have twisted in the primer cylinder into the primer pocket.

    • 3

Lower the handle of the reloader. This simple movement will take the powder from the charge bar to the hull, which charges it.

    • 4

Insert a wad column, which contains the powder, into the hull over where you placed the primer cylinder. Then, lower the ram handle on the reloading machine to move the wad against the powder. Move the charge bar at this time. You can now crimp and close the hull. That's all you need to do with the powder.
