How to Resonate Correctly in Singing

Without resonance, singing would be like playing a stringed instrument with only the strings and no body. The resonance of your voice will make the difference between quality singing and falling flat. Resonating is mainly accomplished in your head. Before starting a singing exercise, it is important to warm your voice up by humming in various pitches. After a workout, gently slide your voice from your highest note to the lowest.

Instructions

    • 1

Train your high, medium and low resonances by using them often. To tell if you are using them properly, feel your chest for vibrations with your fingers during the low notes. Feel your throat area for medium tones and then your nose for upper notes. You also will be able to feel the vibrations without your fingers. Some vibration should always be felt in your head.

    • 2

Become familiar with the vibratory feel of each note. Train each one individually to try to increase the amount of vibration in each area.

    • 3

Make a hooting sound with your mouth closed to achieve a high voice. With enough training, you will feel it throughout your head.

    • 4

Breathe deeply into your diaphragm before each note. Release from the same area. Let it come out with ease; don't push too hard, forcing the air out, because this could block off some of the vital cavities that are needed for a resonating voice.
