Things You'll Need
Instructions
Choose a song that is comfortable for you and that you would like to learn to sing.
Sing scales as a basic warm-up. Start with "do" and ascend an entire octave. Then come back down. Play along with a piano or keyboard, if you like, to ensure matched pitch.
Learn basic singing exercises that help you to improve not only your tone and pitch but also your ability to deliver certain types of sounds. These can include singing chords at various pitches while delivering certain sounds, such as "ah ay ee oh say." The idea is to warm up your vocal chords and also see which sounds are most comfortable to you.
Practice singing the song you have chosen once you are warmed up. Start off with the chorus or pick a verse to learn. The idea is to learn the song in small increments. Once you have mastered each section, you can put it all together and comfortably deliver the song. Since the lyrics and melody will come naturally to you by this point, you'll be able to consider dynamics and tone rather than focusing on the technicalities.
Practice frequently, even if it is just when you're in the car. Repeated practicing can help to make yourself comfortable with the harmonies, and it will make them come more naturally.
