Things You'll Need
Instructions
Look on the electrical item you intend to wire to locate the two terminal connectors. One is labeled "+" and the other "-." Loosen the terminal connector screws on the electrical item using a screwdriver.
Check the 12-volt power source so ascertain how the wires connect. If it's a transformer, then it has terminal screws, similar to the electrical appliance, so loosen them using a screwdriver. If it is a battery, you will need to attach the wires onto the battery terminals using strips of electrical tape.
Strip two inches of outer protective casing off the end of a strip of dual-core AWG 16 wire using wire strippers. Do the same on the opposite end.
Strip ½-inch of plastic off the ends of the exposed black and red wires on both ends of the wire using wire strippers. Twist the bare copper internal wire so the strands stay together.
Slide one end of the black wire under the "-" terminal screw on the electrical device. Tighten the screw using a screwdriver. Insert the red wire under the "+" terminal screw on the electrical item and tighten the screw.
Slide the black wire on the opposite end under the "-" terminal screw on the transformer and tighten. Slide the red wire under the "+" terminal screw on the transformer and tighten. If the wire connects to a battery then place the black wire on the "-" terminal and put a strip of tape over the wire and terminal to hold it in position. Place the red wire onto the "+" battery terminal and hold it in position using a strip of tape.
Put the plug on the end of the wire from the transformer into the wall socket and turn on the transformer. If the power source is a battery, you don't need to do anything to the battery as electricity is already flowing. Turn on the electrical device and it starts operating.
