How to Make a Wood Pocket Jig

Wood pocket jigs are among the easiest jigs to make. Not only that, but they are also among the the easiest to use when you would like to keep the screw in place. Dowel joints are also another type that can be used, but they are much more complicated. The materials needed for a wood pocket jig are also minimal by comparison with dowel joints.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the front of the pocket hole jig using a saw. There should be a 15 degree angle to allow it to hold the work piece at the right angle.

    • 2

Cut two 1.2-inch slots for T tracks. The screws will be aligned to fit in the gussets and stiffeners once the holes are drilled.

    • 3

Drill four holes in the base. They are to hold the flat-head screws that secure the gussets into place. Countersink them into the bottom of the base. There should be 6 1/2 inches between each of the holes around the edge.

    • 4

Attach the gussets to the base. Center the stiffener on the backside of the front section. Drill and countersink a 9 1/2-inch hole that is 5/8 inch from each of the ends of the piece of wood. Position the T track, front and stiffener into place on the base. Screw the gussets into place through the T track.

    • 5

Add glue to the stiffener and the front and clamp them together until they dry. Install the support piece using four screws. They should be 1 inch apart. The support should not be glued to the base since it might need to be replaced over time.
