How to Make a Cable-Controlled Puppet Mouth

Sometime you need your hand for more than controlling the mouth of your puppet. That's where a cable-controlled mouth comes in handy. You can simply wrap the cable around your thumb and a jerk can move the mouth while the rest of your hand moves the limbs. This type of control works best with puppets that have mouths that shut on their own when there is no outside tension.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring Tape
  • Fishing line

Instructions

    • 1

Measure how long the other cables on your puppet are, if your puppet has other cables.

    • 2

Cut the fishing line so that it is as long as your other cables. If your puppet doesn't have other cables, cut the thread 2 inches longer than the height of your puppet.

    • 3

Thread the needle by pushing the fishing line through the hole in the needle.

    • 4

Make a knot at the other end of the fishing line.

    • 5

Pierce the fabric on the chin of the puppet with the needle and pull it through. Keep pulling until the knot is flush with the fabric.

    • 6

Push the needle through the same hole and pull the fishing line tight. Repeat this step four more times.

    • 7

Knot the thread by pushing the needle through the stitches you just made and then through the loop of fishing line and pull the line tight.

    • 8

Pull the needle off the fishing line and your cable is complete.
