How to Make a LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime

Lego is a construction block toy that features thousands of pieces that connect together. Most Lego pieces have a stud on their top side and a corresponding depression on their bottom side that snap in to each other. These pieces can be made into nearly any object, including the Transformer Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime is the hero of the AutoBots. He is mainly blue and red and is known for being wise, strong, compassionate and good. You can make a simple Optimus Prime in under ten minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 red 2-by-3 plate
  • 2 blue 2-by-1 hinged plates
  • 2 red 1-by-1 downward sloped bricks
  • 6 red two-studded side plates
  • 2 blue 1-by-1 holder plates
  • 1 blue 1-by-1 right holder plate
  • 1 yellow 1-by-1 round plate
  • 6 black 1-by-1 round plates

Instructions

    • 1

Connect two 2-by-1 blue hinged plates to the bottom of the 2-by-3 red plate. The hinged plates each look like two 2-by-1 plates with little teeth at one end that connect to each other, allowing a hinging motion.

    • 2

Add a 1-by-1 sloped blue brick to the top part of the free-moving plate of each hinged plate. These two sloped bricks form the feet of the simple Optimus Prime and the front of Optimus in vehicle mode.

    • 3

Connect the remaining two visible studs on top of the 2-by-3 red plate to the bottom of a blue 2-by-1 plate that has attached handle bars.

    • 4

Attach a two-studded side brick on top of one of the visible studs of the 2-by-1 handle-bar plate. Attach another two-studded side brick facing the opposite direction of the first you attached. The two-studded side brick looks like a 1-by-1 brick with one extra stud on a horizontal face of the brick.

    • 5

Connect one black 1-by-1 round stud to each horizontal stud of the two-studded side bricks.

    • 6

Connect a red 1-by-1 holder plate to one of the 1-by-1 black round studs. Connect another red 1-by-1 holder plate to the other black round studs. The holder plates look like a square Lego with two pincher fingers coming off of them. These form miniature hands of Optimus Prime.

    • 7

Connect a blue 1-by-1 right-angled holder plate to the central handle of the handle bar plate. This central blue 1-by-1 right-angled holder plate looks similar to the previous holder plates you used except that the pincher fingers are attached at a right angle to the main plane of the plate.

    • 8

Attach a yellow 1-by-1 round translucent stud to the blue 1-by-1 right angle holder plate. This forms the miniature head of Optimus Prime.

    • 9

Turn the forming Optimus Prime around to look at the back side of the 2-by-3 plate you began with.

    • 10

Connect one black 1-by-1 stud round plate to another two-studded side brick. Repeat this process four times. Attach each one of these side bricks to the bottom of each of the 2-by-1 hinged plates where the hinged plates attach to the 2-by-3 plate. These form the wheels of the Transformer.

    • 11

Stand Optimus Prime on the two sloped bricks. His arms and face are facing forward. Place him on his back, on the wheels you just made, and turn the downward sloped bricks downward with the hinged plates. This is Optimus' vehicle mode.
