How to Use Micro-Trains Couplers

The Kadee model train company, now the Micro-Trains Line Company, designed a unique magnetic coupling system for use with N-scale model trains. These magnetic couplers allow the controller to engage and disengage two trains without having to physically touch the trains themselves. This gives the N-scale modeler using the Micro-Trains couplers the opportunity to more realistically model train operations, including shunting.

Instructions

  Install magnets in permanent positions between the parallel rails in locations on the track where you wish to be able to uncouple cars.

  Place the train cars on the track, then push them together to engage the coupler mechanism, attaching the two cars together.

  Turn on the controlling system, then raise the throttle to begin moving the train along the track.

  Stop the train with the couplers on cars you wish to uncouple positioned directly over the magnet. Once the train is completely stopped, removing the slack between cars, the magnetic force will push against the metal rods on the couplers, forcing them to disengage.

  Reengage the coupler by simply pushing one car into another with slight force.
