How to Repair a Cultured Pearl Ring

You must take care when repairing your cultured pearl ring or you will damage the pearl and have to replace it. Cultured pearls in fine jewelry rings are a great look but need a few extra steps during the repair process so you do not lose the pearl. They cannot take direct heat, so you must remove them before you repair the ring.

Things You'll Need

Torch, acetylene/oxygen or propane/oxygen
Two-part epoxy
Toothpick
Jewelry pliers
Pearl drill bit
Hand driver or flexshaft
Hobby knife

Instructions

  Hold the ring with the pliers. Heat the bottom of the ring shank with the torch on a low flame for 20 to 30 seconds.

  Unscrew or pull the cultured pearl from the ring. Make the necessary repairs to the ring.

  Drill out the old glue with the drill bit. Remove any old glue from the ring using the hobby knife.

  Mix a small amount of two-part epoxy. Apply a sparing amount of epoxy to the post and base on the ring using the toothpick.

  Replace the pearl on the ring and hold it in place for 2 to 3 minutes. This will allow the epoxy to set up. Place the ring in an out-of-the-way place to allow the glue to dry.
