How to Make Dark T-shirts With Vinyl Cutters

The typical way to make a T-shirt design is by printing an image onto transfer paper and then using a heat press or iron to apply the image to the T-shirt. However, if you want to make dark T-shirts, you need a vinyl cutter. This device cuts excess material from vinyl transfer paper. To do this, use a vinyl cutter such as a GX-24 that's made by Roland.

Opaque vinyl transfer paper
Cloth
Iron

Instructions

  Insert a sheet of vinyl transfer paper into the paper tray of your printer.

  Click the icon for the image design program that you want to use. These can include Adobe Photoshop, CutStudio or the Paint.NET program.

  Click the "File" drop-down menu and select the option for "Print and Cut." Set the options for the size of vinyl transfer sheet that you want to print.

  Click the "File" drop-down menu again and select the option for "Print." This prints the image onto the vinyl transfer paper.

  Allow the ink on the vinyl transfer paper to dry. Insert the transfer paper into the vinyl cutter. Click the "File" drop-down menu and select the option for "Cut."

  Remove the cut image from the vinyl cutter. Remove any excess vinyl transfer paper from the edges of the image.

  Turn on the iron and put it on the "High" setting. Allow the iron to heat fully.

  Position the transfer paper on the T-shirt. Place a cloth over the transfer paper. Run the iron on the cloth to heat the transfer paper. Peel off the transfer paper and the image will be transferred to the T-shirt.
