How to Create a Warm Tone in Writing

You might want to adopt a warm tone in a piece of writing for many different reasons. For instance, it might make a business letter seem less stilted and formal, make a piece of non-fiction writing more accessible or help create a believable voice for a character in a novel or short story. If you take just a few points into consideration, you can give your writing a warm tone.

Instructions

    • 1

Use contractions such as "don't" and "won't" instead of "do not" and "will not." This makes the tone of your writing seem warmer, as writing the words out in full sounds overly formal.

    • 2

Include first person pronouns in your work. It is sometime practice, especially in business writing, to avoid first person pronouns such as I and we. However, leaving them out of your writing can make in sound cold and stiff.

    • 3

Choose informal versions of words. For instance, use "will" rather than "shall" or "among" rather than "amongst" to make the tone of your writing warmer.
