How Do I Stop From Sounding Pitchy?

A pitchy sounding voice while singing on stage is not usually something that audiences want to hear. Unless you are purposely making your voice sound pitchy for comedic effect, it will likely be very embarrassing for you when your voice falters. Luckily, there are a few simple things that you can do to help train your voice and to stop yourself from sounding pitchy when you sing on stage for an audience.

Instructions

    • 1

Sing with music or an instrumental accompaniment. When you have music playing along with your singing, you will be much less likely to sound pitchy.

    • 2

Practice singing after a pitch from an instrument, such as a piano. Play a pitch and then sing it back. This exercise will help you recognize what your voice pitch should sound like as it goes along with the music.

    • 3

Record yourself as you practice singing pitch. Then, listen to the recording. Practice the notes where you sounded pitchy.

    • 4

Watch your facial movements. They can affect your pitch. If you smile, for example, your pitch is likely to be higher.

    • 5

Control your emotions when you perform. When you become out of breath, you will probably sound pitchy.
