How to Use Arbor Presses

An arbor press is necessary for seating, stamping and removing bearings. Arbor presses range in size from small table mounts to large presses. Jewelers may use smaller arbor presses to insert precious metals. Larger arbor presses are used for pushing bearings into precision machinery. Even though arbor presses vary in size, the function is pretty much the same. With some practice, you will be able to use an arbor press.

     Lay your piece on the press plate of the arbor.

     Align the bearing with the hole at the bottom of the arbor press.

   • 3

     Insert the pushpin into the rear of the bearing assembly. This will allow the pushpin to sit against the back part of the bearing.

   • 4

     Pull down on the handle of the arbor press. Push the bearing from the assembly and return the handle to its original position.
