How to Place an Arrow on a Compound Bow

To improve accuracy and consistency, the proper form is crucial for an archer. Whether you shoot with a recurve or a compound bow, arrow placement is crucial to hitting your mark with precision. While placing the arrow on a recurve bow is straightforward and intuitive, placing it on a compound bow can be confusing. For a compound bow, you need to install the proper arrow rest mount for your shooting application, whether you are hunting or engaging in target practice. No matter which mount you use, the process for mounting an arrow is the same. Always point the tip of the arrow away from you, and hold your bow so it is facing forward.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the arrow through the breach of the arrow rest, tip first. Some arrow rests have a top-loading breach, while others have a centerline breach.

    • 2

Push the arrow forward, until the rear clip of the arrow is in front of the string.

    • 3

Pull the arrow back, gripping it by the clip on the rear, and slide the clip around the string of the bow. The arrow should rest snuggly in place.

    • 4

Place the drawback trigger device to the string directly behind the clip of the arrow. Then draw the string back. Check that the arrow remains in the arrow rest completely during the pullback process. If it slips out at all, do not release the arrow.
