DIY Giant Crossbow

A crossbow is a medieval weapon that fires an arrow using a pulled string, much like that of a bow. A giant crossbow can be made in much the same manner as that of a miniaturized version, only using supplies from a hardware store instead of from around the home. No special tools will be needed.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 6-foot wooden dowels, 1/2 inch thick
  • Duct tape
  • 4 1-foot rubber bands, 1/2 inch thick
  • 4-foot PVC tube, 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 5-foot bungee cords, 1 inch thick
  • 10-foot wooden dowel, 1/8 inch thick

Instructions

    • 1

Place one of the 6-foot dowels horizontally on a table. Place another 6-foot dowel beneath the first. Tape the left ends of the two dowels together with a strip of duct tape.

    • 2

Wrap a rubber band around the two dowels 6 inches in from the left ends. Wrap a rubber band around the opposite ends of the two dowels, also 6 inches in. Repeat this entire procedure with the tape and rubber bands with two additional 6-foot wooden dowels.

    • 3

Line up the middle of the second pair of dowels vertically across the rubber band at the left end of the dowels. Place the second pair of dowels on the rubber band. Wrap a rubber band around the two pairs of dowels.

    • 4

Place the PVC tube on top of the horizontal dowels. Line up the tube so that the ends are over the rubber bands.

    • 5

Wrap a piece of duct tape around the tube and the two dowels just behind the rubber band at the left end. Repeat this procedure with the tube and cellophane tape, only in front of the rubber bands at the other end of the dowels.

    • 6

Place the loop of a bungee cord between the left two dowels at the right end. Push the loop up against the rubber band that is already there. Repeat this procedure with another bungee cord and the right two dowels.

    • 7

Pull the ends of the two looped bungee cords together. Tape the ends together with strips of duct tape.

    • 8

Insert the 10-foot wooden dowel that will be the arrow into the tube on the right side of the dowels. Push the dowel through the tube until it comes out the other side. Place the taped end of the cords against the end of the dowel.
