Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find a suitable location for outdoor portraits. Look for an area with healthy natural elements and a nice view.
Gather a few props for your portraits, such as lattice panels and benches. Not many items are needed, but enough to give your models a variety of places to stand and sit. Keep a dolly on hand, so you can move the items around each time you set up a new shot.
Stage freestanding lights around the perimeter of the photo shoot, if needed. Be sure not to block the path of the camera lens. You'll need to plan ahead and find power outlets and extension cords to work the lights before you set up your outdoor shoot. Position reflectors at different angles, so you can reflect the sun's natural light onto your model.
Conduct a few test shots once you have your outdoor studio set up. Test your camera equipment and snap shots of the outdoor conditions at that moment. Look at your sample pictures to see if the colors, light and background complement your models.
Make necessary changes as needed during the outdoor portrait. Try different positions and poses by changing the set up. Move around the lights and reflectors to give a softer look in the shade perhaps. Remove a bench and introduce a chair that gives your model more height in front of a building or a tree, for instance.
