Things You'll Need
Instructions
Ensure the fuel tank is filled if the engine fails to start. If the engine is cold, push the primer button five times. Do not over prime the engine as this may flood it.
Verify the appropriate switches are in the "on" mode if the engine fails to start. Confirm the unit's on-off key switch, beneath the steering wheel, is in the "on" position. Ensure the engine on-off switch, on the side of the engine, is in the "on" position.
Check the wire between the on-off key switch and the engine switch if the engine refuses to stop. Ensure the wire is securely connected to both switches. Inspect the wire for wear or damage. If the wire is damaged, replace it.
Inspect the accelerator cable, located beside the accelerator pedal, for damage if the engine will not slow to idle speed. Verify that the accelerator rod or cable are not warped or damaged. Replace the rod or cable if either is damaged.
Tighten the engine mounting bolts with a wrench if the unit suffers excessive vibration during use. Continued excessive vibration can cause further component damage. Replace any broken or missing engine mounting bolts.
