Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn the valve at the top of your RV's propane tank counterclockwise as far as it will go in order to turn on the liquid propane system in your RV.
Check that the water holding tank in your RV is full and also make sure your RV's battery is fully charged, or that your RV is plugged into a 120 volt AC power outlet. The water heater cannot function without sufficient propane gas, water and power.
Drain the water heater by removing the drain plug and refill it with water. This will counteract the fairly common issue of Impurities in the water causing your Atwood water heater to malfunction.
Make sure that there are no obstructions or dust or debris in the vent and air grill that can prevent the water heater from working properly. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove these blockages.
Remove the air shutter screws using a screwdriver and slide the air shutter down the burner tube. With the burner tube open you can now use a wire brush to clean the tube. This will remove spider, insect or wasp nests which can impede the workings of the heater.
