How to Stage a Record

People set records in all kinds of things: tallest, shortest, most sneezes in a day, most sit-ups in 30 seconds, biggest hot dog ever made. New records are set on a regular basis. You can set your own record too. There are particular steps you should follow when staging your record so that the record is verified and counted. Once you have a record in mind, you're ready to begin.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the record you want to set. One of the most-often used sources is the "Guinness World Records."

    • 2

Prepare to break the record. If it something you must complete --- such as doing the most push-ups in one hour --- you need to come to your record attempt with a real shot at breaking the record.

    • 3

Find a venue for your record attempt, such as a performance space, gym or public area. Arrange for a record attempt, contacting the necessary people to secure a spot to stage it. Book the attempt at least a couple weeks or a month in advance to have time to build up excitement and attention.

    • 4

Contact media and other people to attend your record attempt. The more witnesses, the better. As well, have someone film your attempt.

    • 5

Stage the record attempt. If you successfully make a record, contact Guinness World Records to report it. Fill out the necessary forms, and follow the necessary steps to ensure your record is reported.
