How to Repair the Drag on a Zebco Rhino Reel

The Zebco Rhino spincast reel features a four-bearing drive, rugged body, brass gears and an adjustable drag. The handle is reversible for right or left handers. Fishing reels often require some upkeep, including maintenance on the drag. Owners must clean and lubricate the drag to keep it functioning properly.

Things You'll Need

Mild dish detergent
Small brush
Cloth
Fishing-reel lubricant

Instructions

  Take the reel apart by unscrewing the cover counterclockwise. This exposes the inner parts.

  Clean around the handle, cover, spool, gears and release button. Remove any debris found inside the reel. Use a small brush -- and a solution of warm water and mild dish detergent -- to clean the inner parts.

  Rinse the soap off of all the reel parts.

  Allow the parts to dry, or wipe them with a clean cloth.

  Grease all gears and shafts with a lubricant designed for fishing reels.

  Replace any parts of the reel that are visibly broken.

  Place the cover back on the reel; Turn the cover clockwise.
