How to Create a Hideout

A hideout can provide relief from the stresses of everyday life and allow you to escape from the outside world into a world of your very own. Typically, a hideout is a place you can escape to that is off limits or unknown to others. There are several types of hideouts that you can create and many options for the perfect location.

Instructions

    • 1

Think about where you'd like to create your hideout. Consider whether you would like to have a large or small space in which to create the hideout. If you choose a large space as opposed to a smaller one, be sure that the space you choose is not being used by others. You might find that a smaller space is easier for building your hideout.

    • 2

Claim your space for your hideout. If others are using the hideout space currently or if there is a possibility they might in the future, claim this space as your own. Let people know that this space is yours and that it is off limits to others.

Design your hideout. Whether you choose a cardboard box, the basement of your home or a tree house outdoors, every hideout needs your own personal touch. Try adding your favorite armchair or decorations that you are fond of that make you feel at home. The beauty of having your own hideout is that it is totally customizable to fit your likes and dislikes.

Soundproof your hideout if needed. If your hideout is not already soundproof, consider doing some work in order to block out any unwanted sound. This can range from installing cheap Styrofoam panels on the walls to installing full professional soundproofing, depending on your tastes and budget.

      Paint your hideout.

Add some color to your hideout. If you have chosen a room, liven it up by painting it with your favorite colors.

    • 6

Plug in your stereo. Since you have now officially claimed this space, add your favorite kind of music. If you have taken the time and money to soundproof your hideout, you might be able to turn up the volume on your stereo and not disturb others.

Install a lock on your hideout door. If you have had the good fortune of claiming an entire room, think about security measures to protect your privacy. Installing a lock on the door will ensure that any unwanted visitors will not disturb you. Make sure that only you and any other authorized parties have a key or a code that will open the lock.
