Changing Tides
The tides change with the phases of the moon. Going into a new moon phase, when you can't see the moon, tides tend to become higher as they are impacted by the moon's gravitational pull. As the moon waxes, the tides will be lower. And heading into the full moon phase, the tides become higher again and get lower as the moon wanes.
Tide Impact
In certain areas, the strength of the tide impacts the turbidity of the water you will be fishing in. In the coastal areas of Georgia, for instance, as the height of the tide rises, the water becomes weighted down with silt. This reduces the fisherman's chances of success. In these areas, low tides mean the fishing waters are likely clearer, which makes for better fishing conditions. In areas such as harbors and bays, high tide may be a better time to catch fish since they will be moving into shallow water.
Availability of Prey
Tides also impact the availability of the fish's prey, and the fish move in search of their prey. In marshes and somewhat salty streams, for instance, high tide means fish will chase their prey. When the tide becomes low in such spots, it is not easy to find fish there.
Other Fishing Tips
If you are using a boat, check weather conditions to see if the climate is suitable for your trip. Floating structures, such as debris, attract the fish and their bait and, therefore, are good places to fish. Sea birds, particularly in saltwater, offer a hint of good fishing too, since they often feed on the bait that predatory fish push to the surface of the water.
