How to Tell if a Sequencer Is Bad

Music sequencers are typically included with electric keyboards, such as a Kurzweil, that allow you to create and modify many types of sounds. The sequencer options of the keyboard include linear, pattern, and step or drum machine. When a problem occurs with your sequencer, verify that the unit is working correctly or determine if the device is no longer functioning.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the electrical panel for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker. Replace a fuse or reset the breaker and see if the sequencer will turn on. If the sequencer does not turn on, you may have damaged one or more internal component.

    • 2

Verify that you are not overloading the circuit with too many components. Run an extension cord from an additional electrical outlet to reduce the number of components on one circuit.

    • 3

Open the access panel that is on the underside of the keyboard. Remove the old coin-cell battery from the unit and replace it with a new one.

    • 4

Press the "Program" button to access the keyboard's program mode. Press buttons "4," "5," and "6" at the same time to enable the diagnostic scanner.

    • 5

Press the "+" key, the "-" key and the "0" key at the same time to initiate a "soft" reset. This will clear any minor issues with the sequencer. If the soft reset does not work, the unit will need to be replaced.
