How to Mount a Fishfinder to a Raft

Fish finders work by bouncing sound waves to and from a transducer fixed to the bottom of the vessel. Rafts may be fitted with fish finders to make the task of locating fish easier. Portable fish finders are the best option for raft owners, though they are more expensive. A cheaper option is a traditional fish finder attached using suction cups and glue.

Glue the transducer to the bottom of the raft using silicone adhesive. When deciding on placement, consider how the boat is stored and whether the transducer might be damaged during transit. Make sure the area is clean and dry before applying the adhesive.

Mount the display unit where the raft's operator can easily see it and as far from the water line as possible. If the raft has a fiberglass central seating area, place the display unit in a convenient place and use a felt-tip pen to mark where the screw holes will be. Carefully drill holes into the fiberglass using a drill bit slightly smaller than the width of the screws provided with the fish finder. Screw the display unit into place.

Run the cable from the display unit over the back of the boat to the transducer beneath it. Glue the cable in place using silicone adhesive. Alternatively, use clamps with suction cups attached to them. Use at least one every four inches to ensure there are no opportunities for the cable to snag.
