How to Use Hectograph Paper

Tattoo artists use hectograph paper to transfer their own designs to skin as a stencil. Although people in other professions used to use hectograph paper to make copies, this happens less frequently with advances in technology. For this reason, the main market for hectograph paper is in the tattoo industry, which uses it for easy transfer of designs onto skin.

Things You'll Need

Paper
Pen
Hectograph paper
Glass tabletop
Tape
Scissors
Water
Deodorant (optional)

Instructions

  Draw a tattoo design on a piece of paper. Make sure all the details are exactly as you want them on the finished tattoo. If you make a mistake, start over.

  Take out hectograph paper. These come in three-piece sets. Remove the protective inside sheet and flip the paper over so the white part sits on top. Place the hectograph paper on a hard surface like glass.

  Place the regular sheet of paper with your created design on top of the hectograph paper. Tape it down so it doesn't move around while you trace. Next, trace your drawn lines with a pen. The pressure transfers the lines to the back of the white hectograph paper.

  Use the scissors to cut out the design so you can work with it more easily. Next, moisten the area of skin where the design will go with water or even deodorant. The moisture helps in the ink transfer. Place the hectograph design onto the skin and rub gently. Then, slowly peel the paper away and an ink outline of the design should remain.
