Things You'll Need
Instructions
Clean the air cleaner box if the engine has difficulty starting or idles roughly. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the air cleaner cover, then remove the air cleaner cover. Wash the air cleaner box with a clean cloth soaked in a mild detergent and water solution. Rinse the air cleaner box thoroughly. Let the air box dry. Replace the air cleaner element if it has endured more than 20 hours of operation.
Change the oil in the crankcase if the go kart begins operating roughly. Unscrew the drain plug located on the bottom right of the engine. Elevate the front of the kart to assist in draining the oil. Drain the oil in an appropriate container for safe disposal. Remove the oil screen and clean it by rinsing it thoroughly under running water. Once the oil is drained, reattach the drain plug and tighten it. Return the kart to a level surface and re-fill the crankcase with the model-specific quantity and brand of oil.
Check the spark plugs if the go kart engine has trouble starting or operating. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the spark plugs. Inspect the electrode for carbon buildup and use an emery (nail file) to rub away any carbon or debris. Wipe away excess oil with a clean cloth. Coat the spark plug threads with graphite lubricant before reinstalling. Spark plugs should be changed at least once a year to help the engine run optimally.
