How to Tie a Fireworks Knot

At certain holidays through the year, such as the 4th of July, there will be fireworks displays put on by professional pyrotechnicians. If you live in an area where fireworks are legal for amateurs to use, you could set up your own displays at home, being careful to observe all fire and explosives safety rules, of course. If you need to tie two or three fuses together, or if you need to tie something to your fuse, the knot used by professional pyrotechnicians is called a clove hitch. Tying a clove hitch is an easy and secure way to tie your own fuses at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your fuses in front of you and hold the string in your left hand.

    • 2

Toss the right leg of the tie string over the top of your fuses. Bring it down and around to the front so it loops around your fuses and grab it in your right hand again.

    • 3

Extend your left forefinger in front of the right leg of your tie string. Loop the right end around your finger to the front and back over the fuses, forming a V with the left leg of the tie string.

    • 4

Bring the right leg back around the fuses and through the center of the V formed by both legs of the tie string. This will form what appears to be two loops around your fuse, with the trailing ends of the string between them.

    • 5

Move the knot to the position you want it and tighten it by pulling the legs of the tie string away from the knot.
