Tin Foil
The reflective nature of aluminum foil, along with its ability to mold into various shapes, makes it an ideal lure for fishing. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil, preferably a piece one-inch square, and fold it to look like a silver triangle. Attach the piece of foil over the top of your hook. Push down on the center of the foil with your index finger while, at the same time, using your middle finger and thumb to pinch the foil together. Secure the foil to the hook with some line.
Feathers
Feathers are materials used for making artificial flies. Brightly colored feathers, such as those taken from pillows or a feather duster, can catch bluegill, crappie and trout. Anglers can construct a fly assortment by cutting a small piece of a feather and wrapping it around a hook. If using a fly rod, the lightness of the feather will allow it to stay on the surface of the water. The opposite is true when fishing with a spin caster or bait caster, rod and reel. To cast your feather lure, you must weigh it down. By adding weight to the line, the feather hook will sink upon landing on the water.
Spoons
An ordinary kitchen spoon can be a fishing lure. Find an old spoon and cut its handle off. Drill a half-inch hole within the middle edge of the spoon. Using a thin metal wire, create a circular loop to run through the hole in the spoon and the eye of a fishhook. Join both ends of the wire and twist the wire to secure it to the hook. The spoon will become a spinning blade when pulled in the water. The blade will sparkle as it captures the reflection of the sun. The sparkling effect will attract the attention of large fish. A large predator fish that sees the twirling spoon/blade will think that it is a darting minnow and strike.
Weights
The use of construction materials, such as high strength nuts and hardened steel washers, are useful as weights when fishing. Small circular nuts can act as weights and make it possible to cast your line and get the bait to the bottom. This will also work using small steel washers that you can thread on to your fishing line.
Hook
If you do not have a hook, it's possible to construct one from ordinary household materials such as safety pins, nails and paperclips. In most cases, you can construct a hook by simply bending it with your fingers. For better results, use pliers to create a barbed hook. Take the pliers and straighten out a piece of metal. Bend the top end about a half of an inch to form an eye. Bend the bottom into a hook. With a nail file, sharpen the end of the hook.
