How to Use a Magnum DX by Graco: Owners Manual

Graco is a manufacturer of airless paint sprayers. The Magnum DX is a consumer-grade model designed for the do-it-yourself homeowner. Large rooms, basements or even the outside of the home can be painted quickly. The sprayer has a piston pump that is electrically powered and operates at 2,800 pounds per square inch, which allows the sprayed paint to atomize for consistent coverage. The Magnum DX comes with a 3/16-in. diameter, 25-ft. spray hose. It is rated to dispense paint at a rate of 0.25 gallons per minute.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw one end of the paint hose into the bottom of the spray gun. Use the adjustable wrenches to tighten the hose. Place one wrench on the spray gun fitting to keep it from moving, then use the other wrench to tighten the hose fitting. Attach the other end of the hose to the paint output fitting on the sprayer.

    • 2

Turn the power switch to "Off." Turn the pressure control knob counterclockwise -- all the way left.

    • 3

Turn the "Spray/Prime/Drain" valve to the "Prime" position, so that the knob's pointer is pointing straight down.

    • 4

Separate the priming tube from the paint suction tube and insert it into an empty waste pail. The priming tube is the smaller, more flexible tube. Insert the suction tube, the larger tube, into a 5-gal. bucket filled with water -- or mineral spirits if using oil-based paints.

    • 5

Plug the sprayer into an outlet, then turn the main power switch to "On". Turn the pressure adjustment knob clockwise until the pump activates. Let the unit run for approximately 30 seconds. The fluid will flow from the water bucket into the waste bucket. Turn the switch off.

    • 6

Remove the suction tube from the water and submerge it into the paint bucket. Turn on the power switch until paint flows out of the priming tube.

    • 7

Point the spray nozzle into the waste bucket and squeeze the trigger handle. Turn the valve to the "Spray" position. Paint will flow from the spray nozzle. Release the trigger to stop the flow of paint.

    • 8

Remove the priming tube from the waste bucket and insert it into the paint bucket. Clip it to the suction tube to secure it.

    • 9

Hold the spray gun so the nozzle is approximately 12 inches from the surface to be painted and pull the trigger. Use even strokes and a consistent speed as you paint. Adjust the pressure knob as necessary to achieve a consistent fan-shaped spray pattern. Start at low pressure and increase as necessary.

    • 10

If the nozzle clogs, rotate the nozzle lever 180 degrees so that the tip of the arrow points backward. Point the nozzle into the waste bucket and pull the trigger. When the obstruction is cleared, rotate the lever again so the arrow points forward.
