How to Sharpen a Gut Hook

A gut hook is an attachment found on hunting knives that is used to skin and clean animals without piercing intestines and spilling their contents. Because of the blade's curved shape, traditional flat knife sharpeners are inappropriate for honing a gut hook. Instead, use a tapered cone-shaped sharpener with diamond layers designed to get into the blade's curve.

Instructions

      Hold the gut hook still in one hand and keep it still.

      Push the taper sharpener along the angle of the blade's edge, rotating it as you move from the narrow end to the wider end. Repeat this process five to 10 times.

      Repeat the process on the other side of the blade.
