Turpentine is a quick, inexpensive solution to remove color from plastic. A common solvent used in wood preservatives, oil-based paints and varnishes, turpentine contains cleaning properties that lift petroleum-based products, such as paints, permanent markers and dyes from most surfaces, including plastic. Wear plastic gloves when using turpentine because it causes a burning sensation when it comes in contact with bare skin, and apply in a well-ventilated area when possible to avoid excessive inhalation of fumes.

Move plastic outdoors if possible to apply turpentine in a location with plenty of ventilation and put on gloves.

Pour turpentine directly on the affected area.
