How to Tighten Tripod Leg Catches

Photographers and videographers often use tripods to stabilize a perfect shot or record a magical moment. Tripod legs can easily be adjusted to a variety of heights; it is important that the legs are tightened to prevent damage to your equipment. Tripods may vary by manufacturer, but they all must either be locked or tighten into place.

  Extend all the legs of the tripod to the same length. Tripods are equipped for the user to adjust the legs to various heights. You may shorten or lengthened them up to the maximum height of the tripod.

  Twist the locking tabs on each of the legs until you feel a slight tension. Be sure not to over tighten; you want to leave enough room to lock each tab into place.

  Flip each of the tabs to the lock position. Make any necessary adjustments that will allow the tripod legs to be tightened. You may need to lengthen, shorten or re-tighten the tabs of the legs until they are at your desire lengths.
