How to Undo Etching Cream

Etching on glass can be done using etching cream. One application for etching cream is to imprint your vehicle's VIN on a window. Once you apply etching cream to glass the process cannot be stopped until the cream has been neutralized. Neutralizing the etching cream prevents the etching process from causing damage to the glass you want to etch. To do this you need to first need obtain the etching cream for the project.

Things You'll Need

  • Etching paper
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Glass cleaner

Instructions

    • 1

      Print the letters and numbers for the VIN on a sheet of etching paper.

      Clean the window with soap and water to remove and dirt and debris. Dry the window with a lint-free cloth.

      Peel off one strip of the etching paper. Place the etching paper on the window where you want to have the VIN located.

      Apply the etching cream over the letters and numbers with the applicator. Allow the cream to etch onto the glass for 2 to 3 minutes.

      Pull the etching paper off of the window and set it aside. Spray window immediately with the glass cleaner to neutralize the etching cream.

      Wipe of any reside from the glass with a clean cloth.
