How to Mod a Glock 30 SF

The Glock 30 SF (short frame), is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in the .45 ACP cartridge. It is a slim pistol that gun owners often choose as a concealed carry firearm. Glock pistols have a stellar reputation for reliability, but one common weak point is the plastic sights. They are not easy to see and are also fragile. XS Sights is a company that manufactures a rugged, easy-to-see sight system for the Glock 30 SF. The sights are filled with tritium, which glows in the dark and can be seen in low light or nighttime conditions.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine. Ensure the chamber is empty and there is no live round, then disassemble the pistol according to the manufacturer's instructions. Remove the barrel, recoil spring and guide rod from the slide.

    • 2

Turn the slide upside down and push on the bottom of the front sight with a thin flat blade screwdriver. The sight will pop out of its hole. If a screwdriver will not fit, use needle nose pliers to pry it out from top of the slide.

    • 3

Remove the hex head mounting screw from the underside of the XS front sight. Spray brake cleaner on the threads to remove oil or grease. Wait for the cleaner to completely dry.

    • 4

Install the sight from the top of the slide. Apply a small drop of high strength thread locking compound to the threads of the hex screw, then install the screw from the bottom of the slide into the bottom of the front sight. Hand tighten the screw using the hex wrench supplied with the XS sight kit. Ensure that the sight is on straight and not cocked to one side or the other. Use the hex wrench to loosen, move, then re-tighten the sight as necessary.

    • 5

Use a brass or non-marring punch and mallet to drift out the rear sight out of its dovetail.

    • 6

Use the supplied Allen wrench (opposite end of the hex tool) to back out the two set screws on the XS rear sight so they are sub-flush with the bottom of the sight.

    • 7

Align the XS rear sight with the dovetail cutout in the slide. The slide should push into the dovetail with finger pressure only. If it does not, use a fine metal file or emery cloth to slightly file down the dovetail portion of the sight. File a little at a time and check for fit. Center the sight on the slide.

    • 8

Use the Allen wrench to gently tighten the two set screws. They require very little torque after the bottom is out. Apply several drops of high strength thread locking compound in multiple locations around the sight at the dovetail joint. The compound will penetrate the joint and harden, securing the sight.

    • 9

Wipe off excess thread locking compound and reassemble the pistol. Take the pistol to the range and sight in the weapon, drifting the rear sight left or right to move the bullet point of impact.
