How to Polish Drill Attachments

Proper care of drill attachments helps to guarantee that they can be used for a long period of time. A polished drill attachment not only looks attractive in its case, but proper polishing can also help prevent future damage to the attachment. Using machine oil to polish your attachments also helps protect them against rust. Once the drill attachment has been polished, store it in a clean, dry place to prevent further damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean any surface dust and dirt from the drill attachment using a toothbrush. Be sure to clean the inside of the drill flutes and any crevices as thoroughly as possible.

    • 2

Saturate a small section of a rag with machine oil. Wipe down the drill attachment with this section of the rag, trying to access as much of the attachment as possible.

    • 3

Place a small amount of machine oil onto a woodblock. Wait for several minutes until the machine oil is absorbed into the body of the wood.

    • 4

Place your drill attachment onto your drill. Turn your drill on and apply the attachment to the section of the woodblock that is saturated with machine oil. Allow the attachment to go all the way through the woodblock so that all parts of it make contact with the machine oil. This will help to polish the crevices and other hard-to-reach parts of the attachment.

Wipe the dust from drilling off of the attachment with a dry cloth.
