Things You'll Need
Instructions
Unscrew the three screws on the handle side of the reel. Remove the end plate and screw assembly. Wash the inside of the side plate opposite the reel with the alcohol, removing any grease and oil.
Apply a few drops of white glue to the clean side plate at the bottom of the reel and press the three washers into the glue. Allow them to dry for a half hour. Place a rare earth magnet on each washer. They can be purchased online. Put the reel back together, making sure that the reel can spin without obstruction. If it cannot during this test fitting, you'll need to use thinner washers or magnets, or to use less glue. You can wreck a reel if you don't test-fit first.
Take the reel apart again and pull the washers out of the glue. The glue doesn't bond very well to the metal, so it won't be too difficult. Clean the glue off the washers and side plate with the alcohol.
Reattach the washers in the same spot on the side plate, this time with the superglue. Allow the superglue to cure.
Place the magnets into the washers with their pole directions facing up in the pattern north, south, north. Put the reel back together.
Go to a park or another large open space and test the reel. You have to cast it quickly in order to feel the full effect of the magnets. Your cast should travel farther than before due to the minimized backlash and steady lure speed.
