How to Make PVC Soft

PVC pipe was never intended to be bent into any shape other than "straight." There are times, however, when it comes in quite handy to be able to soften the pipe enough to bend it into a desired shape. It takes a great deal of heat to soften a PVC pipe enough to make it bendable.

  Take the PVC pipe to an outdoor area, or at the very least a well-ventilated workshop. Fumes from burning PVC pipe are toxic, so you want a place where the fumes can escape if you apply too much heat.

  Place the PVC pipe onto a non-flammable surface.

  Plug your heat gun into an electrical socket and hold the muzzle about an inch away from the portion of the PVC pipe you want softened.

  Activate the heat gun and move the muzzle back and forth slowly across the section of pipe. It will take about a minute for the pipe to soften enough for you to actively shape or bend it.
