How to Set Up a Detrum GY192 Gyro

The gyro is responsible for maintaining a radio-controlled (RC) helicopter's stability during flight. As you bank and turn your aircraft, the gyro returns the vehicle to centered flight --- often maintaining a steady hover if you aren't instructing the helicopter otherwise. Proper setup of the Detrum GY192 Gyro ensures optimum performance from the aircraft.

Instructions

  1. 4 Channel System

    • 1

Place the helicopter on a flat surface, then connect the gyro to the rudder channel of the receiver. Turn on the transmitter and receiver, then center the rudder trim (located on the transmitter, underneath the right joystick) to the centered --- or idle --- position.

    • 2

Wait for the LED on the gyro to illuminate then start changing from red to blue. Do not touch the helicopter while this occurs, as this will have a negative impact on the neutral setting of the gyro.

    • 3

Apply slight throttle to fly the helicopter into the air, then maintain a low-altitude hover. If the helicopter wobbles, land the vehicle, then adjust the gain on the gyro in increments until a steady hover is achieved.

    6 Channel System

    • 4

Plug the gyro into the rudder channel, and the gain control wire into the AUX channel of the receiver. Place the helicopter on a level surface, then turn on the transmitter and the receiver.

    • 5

Wait while the LED turns on and begins flickering between red and blue colors. Allow the gyro to establish neutral setting. Do not move the helicopter until the LED stops changing colors.

    • 6

Access the head-lock mode in your transmitter's options menu, then fly the helicopter at a low-altitude hover to check its stability. If the vehicle wobbles during flight, use the rudder trim (located on the transmitter) to adjust the setting until the vehicle is stable during hover.
