How to Use a T-Mount With the Minolta Maxxum

T-mounts are threaded lens mounts for use on single lens reflex cameras with interchangeable lenses. The mount was invented by the Japanese Tamron Co. in 1957. The Minolta Maxxum, introduced in 1985, has always accepted T-mounts, which are a standard way to connect cameras to telescopes and microscopes. To connect a Maxxum to a telescope or other lens you must use a T-mount made specifically for a Maxxum and a T-adapter made for the device you want to connect to the Maxxum.

These adapters are widely available from the manufacturers of these devices and from third party vendors. Install the adapter according to the instructions that came with your telescope, microscope or other optical device.

Use the optical device as you would use any other detachable lens that must be manually focused. The Maxxum's autofocus feature is disabled when these optical devices are mounted on your Maxxum.
