How to Use Minelab E-Trac

Looking for valuable objects underground or at the beach can be a fun and profitable way to spend a few hours outdoors. In order to quickly and accurately locate objects, you can use a metal detector. The Minelab E-Trac is a model of metal detector that features a display screen to give you a visual representation of what is underground. You will use this screen and the buttons around it to operate the Minelab E-Trac effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Power" button on the right side of the Minelab E-Trac control panel to turn it on. Press it one time and you will see the display screen turn on and hear a tone from the built-in speakers. You will see a loading screen on the display and after a few seconds you will see the normal readout of the ground below you. Press the "Power" button again at any time to turn off the unit.

    • 2

Press the "Noise Cancel" button on the left side of the control panel once. This will start a scan in which the unit will try to find the best operating frequency based on the electronic equipment in the area. This may take up to 30 seconds to complete and when it is finished you will hear a tone.

    • 3

Place your arm through the arm brace and grasp the handle of the unit firmly in one hand. Begin to walk slowly over the area in which you wish to search for objects. As you walk, slowly begin to sweep the coil back and forth above the ground. Do not tilt the coil as you do this -- try to keep it flat and one inch above the ground.

Listen for tones from the unit and watch the screen. You will hear a noise and see the object on the screen if one is located. Make note of the location on the screen to determine how deep it is. Sweep over the spot and listen for the tone to home in on the location of the item.
