How to Install An Oar Clamp

Boating is a fun recreational sport that relies on safety. Oar locks or clamps are components that should be installed on all boats, regardless of whether or not the boats are equipped with a motor, as motor boats that have trouble could end up stranding people and putting them in dangerous situations. Oar lock installation is fairly standard on all types of boats and can be done with minimal effort and with few tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark the location where you plan to install oar locks -- at just after the midline of the boat railing -- with a marking pencil or pen. Measure the distance of your first mark and duplicate it on the opposite side of the boat.

    • 2

Use a power drill and drill bit sized to your particular oar clamps to drill installation holes in your boat. Follow the installation instructions that came with the clamps for accurate sizing. Install the oar clamp seats.

    • 3

Place the base of the oar clamps into the seats that you have just drilled. Screw them into place with the supplied screws, using a power drill and the type of bit that this installation requires.

    • 4

Place oars into the oar clamps.

    • 5

Secure the oars by attaching the oar buttons onto the oars on the inside of the oar clamps.
