How to Put a String on a Power Yo-Yo

Yo-yo strings can break over time or become frayed, prohibiting the yo-yo from sliding smoothly up and down the string. Yo-yo strings can easily be replaced and there are many different styles of strings from which yo-yo enthusiasts can choose. Classic cotton strings will always be a favorite for some, while others prefer synthetic strings made of polyester or nylon blends which tend to offer a smoother, slippery material for pulling off yo-yo stunts and tricks. Follow these simple steps to replace the string on your yo-yo.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold one end of the yo-yo string in front of you so that the other end of the string is suspended just above the ground.

    • 2

Grasp the string approximately 3 inches above your belly button. Fold the top 3 inches of string over and tie an overhand knot in the string. Trim off any excess string above the knot. Bring the string below the knot back up through the loop creating a slipknot.

    • 3

Separate the two strings that make up your yo-yo string at the other end of the string. All yo-yo strings are made of two strings wound together. Create a small open loop between the two strings at one end of the string and slide it over one side of your yo-yo onto the axle.

    • 4

Twist the yo-yo 180-degrees creating a cross in the loop of string on the axle of the yo-yo. Slide the loop over the side of the yo-yo and onto the axle again, creating a second loop of string around the axle. Experiment with adding additional loops of string around the axle, if desired.

    • 5

Slide the slipknot over the middle finger of your dominant hand. Allow the yo-yo to hang down toward the floor, pulling the slipknot tight around your finger.
