How to Bend Magician's Balloons

Balloons are often used by magicians as a key part of their act. Children especially are often delighted when a magician turns an ordinary balloon into a fun shape, such as an animal or a hat. Though it certainly seems magical, bending balloons doesn't require any magic to complete. Using long, rather than circular shaped, balloons anyone can learn to bend balloons and twist them into fun shapes.

Instructions

    • 1

With clean hands, blow up a number of long balloons using an air pump. Leave each balloon rather soft, leaving several uninflated inches on the end for air space. Tie the end of each balloon securely into a knot using both hands.

    • 2

Grasp the balloon firmly in one hand by the knot. With the other hand, press a section of the balloon between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 3

Bend the balloon by twisting it at least four times, or enough to ensure that the twist will remain secure. Always twist and bend each section in the same direction. If you want to bend more than one section of balloon, be sure to start from the knotted end, working toward the uninflated end.

Experiment with different bubble sizes to create your own masterpiece. Or, use a pattern to twist your balloon into a specific animal or shape.
