How to De-Cock a Taurus PT145

The Taurus PT-145 is a small lightweight double-action 45-caliber pistol and part of Taurus's ultra-compact personal defense millennium family. Due to the size and weight of the model, it is not equipped with a de-cocker, as it has a internal striker. This means that there is no way for the PT145 to have a round in the chamber without the striker being cocked to fire. In order to de-cock the PT145, manually empty the pistol and cycle the trigger.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the magazine from the pistol housing by engaging the magazine release found near the trigger guard with your thumb. Hold your other hand underneath the grip to catch the magazine upon release.

    • 2

Rack the slide on the PT145 to release the round in the chamber, if there is one present, by firmly holding the top rack of the pistol with your hand and pulling back. Visually examine the open chamber to ensure a round is not present.

    • 3

Point the PT145 in a safe direction and pull the trigger, which releases the hammer. Since the chamber was empty, the striker will drop without hitting a bullet.
