How to Tune the C5 Crossbow

The Wildcat C5 is a crossbow developed by Barnett International. Depending on how you store your C5 between seasons, there can be a handful of factors that will affect the performance the next time that you use it. Factors such as the temperature in which it was stored, and if you relaxed the limbs or not can alter the performance, even though it was perfectly tuned for your last use. Before each season of use, it is important to tune the C5, to ensure accuracy and to prevent any performance issues. Tuning the Wildcat C5 can be done with little difficulty.

Instructions

    • 1

Store your C5 in a cool place when not in use. Storing it in places of extreme heat can warp the bow limbs and affect the tautness of the cables and string. Prevent any unforeseen issues by storing it in a cool location.

    • 2

Check the bowstring and cables for any fraying. It is important to keep the strings and cables covered in lube wax wherever the string or cable comes in contact with any other part of the crossbow. Lube wax should be reapplied every five to 10 shots. Bowstrings that begin to fray should be replaced, as should the cables.

    • 3

Inspect the bow limbs for cracks or splits. It is extremely dangerous to continue use of a bow that has cracks in the limbs. Take your bow to an authorized professional to replace limbs if this occurs. The place where you purchased your C5 should have information on authorized repair professionals for your crossbow.

    • 4

Tighten all nuts, bolts and screws. Each time the crossbow is fired, vibration occurs, which can loosen the hardware over time.

    • 5

Check the flight deck to ensure that it is clear of debris and damage. Any amount of debris or any size nick in the shaft that houses the bolt can alter the accuracy of the shot. Use a lint-free cloth to clear any debris from the housing. If there is any damage to this area, take your C5 to an authorized professional for repair.

Check the accuracy of the sights. Set up a bull's-eye target and stand 10 yards away. Look through the rear peep sight and align it with the front pin sight. Aim for the bull's-eye, then shoot a bolt. If the bolt strikes above the bull's-eye, adjust the front horizontal pin up. If the bolt strikes below the bull's-eye, adjust the front horizontal pin down. Adjust the vertical pin to the left, for shots landing to the left of the bull's-eye, and to the right for shots landing to the right. Keep adjusting until you have three consecutive accurate shots.
