Extracurricular Activities & Visitation in Texas

Extracurricular activities provide students in any grade level a chance to learn about new topics or improve their skills in a certain activity, according to Teens Health. Texans can indulge their interests in a variety of extracurricular activities in the state. Different organizations such as private companies, nonprofits and schools offer many classes and events to visit.
  1. College Activities

    • Texas colleges offer students many extracurricular activities in a variety of fields. The student-run clubs at Texas A&M University include an English language and literature club, a model United Nations club that discusses international issues, and two journalism clubs that encourage budding journalists. College groups generally run during the entire school year in various locations on campus. Students should check with club officers for more details on meeting times and locations.

    Running Activities

    • Texas is home to many walking and running events marathons in Austin, Dallas and Houston. Marathon Kids is a nonprofit that encourages health and fitness by training kids in kindergarten through fifth grade during the school year. It gives kids running logs to track their running progress and record their food intake. Running activities keep students active and socialize with other runners.

    Museum Activities

    • Museums across the state have extracurricular programs to educate students in the arts. Typical activities include painting classes and exhibitions geared toward kids. For example, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History's Museum School program encourages kids ages 3 to 6 years old to discover science. The program is accredited by National Association of the Education of Young Children. Students can participate in a summer time program or preschool program during the school year. Choose the best museums based on specific class schedules, costs and students' interests.

    Dance Activities

    • Students who love to dance can choose from many dance schools in Texas. Ballet and tap classes are common all over the state and many schools offer these styles and more under one roof. For example, the Irving-based Dana's Dance Academy (danasdanceacademy.com) has classes in creative movement, for kids who need to develop basic coordination, tap, ballet and cheerleading classes. The Ballet Academy of Texas (balletacademyoftexas.com) has a preparatory program for students to improve their ballet skills. The school's students put on performances for the whole community to attend.
