Things You'll Need
Instructions
Verify that the power circuit that will feed the motor is off at the main power panel and all emergency disconnect switches. Check the motor documentation to see which type of motor you have and how it should be wired. Look at the pin terminals on the motor. The pins will be numbered either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 1, 2, 3, 11, 12, 13. In both cases, connect the red, black and white wire of the main power wire to terminals 1, 2 and 3, respectively, for low speed.
Wire the red, black and white power wires to pins 4, 5 and 6 for high speed if the motor uses a Delta wiring configuration. If the motor uses a Wye wiring configuration, pins 1, 2 and 3 must be connected together using jumper wires.
Verify Step 2 with the wiring instructions that come with the motor. Baldor has another Wye-configured two-speed motor that does not require that pins 1, 2 and 3 be connected together. Double-check all wiring before applying power to these motors. That can help avoid costly mistakes. Turn the power back on and test-start the motor.
