How to Figure Travel Trailer Length

Travel trailers are a great way to take your home with you on vacation. When you get to your location, you can quickly connect them to camp water and electrical supply; thus delivering all the comforts of home. One of the major selling features is the length of the cabin. This extends from the rear bumper to the start of the living quarters on the exterior. The department of transportation measures the length of a trailer from the tip of tongue to the end of the bumper.

     Instruct a friend to hold the start of the measuring tape flush with the end of the bumper.

     Walk with the measuring tape to the start of the cabin and align the measurement with this point.

     Record the measurement indicated on the tape in feet. If the trailer length is needed for licensing, then measure all the way to the trailer's tongue.
